Automated video production

A single video file of a participative lecture/seminar is made from multi-view video capture in an automated post production or editing procedure by gathering data from plural camera and microphone sources, locating and tracking a target (e.g. person) using this data and composing a single video sequence comprising an optimum (e.g. most frontal) view of the target. This may be done in a lecture theatre, seminar room or auditorium and the target may be the current active speaker e.g. an audience member. An automated tracking offline algorithm is used to track a sound emitting from a moving target object in a 3D space to provide localisation data of the target object to identify an optimum camera source to provide video data of said target object. A composite video sequence is composed from a user defined main view and a plurality of identified optimum camera sources to form a single video presentation. The algorithm may use both video data from multiple camera views and audio data from multiple microphone arrays to infer the 3D position of the active speaker over the duration of the captured presentation. A skin colour mask may be used to indicate likely regions of person occupancy.
