The invention relates to the treatment of water of industrial and household waste water, particularly to the treatment with the use of synthetic inorganic sorbents, and can be used for the treatment of surface natural and waste uranium-containing water. A process for the treatment of uranium-containing water consists in treatment of water with sorbent – zinc-aluminium hydroxide, intercalated chelate reagent - ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) of general formula - ZnAl(OH)• EDTA •nHO at pH of aqueous media of). The the process provides the degree of purifying carbonate-containing water from all forms of uranium (VI) at the level of 98.65 – 99.5 %.
