<p>A method of removing a liquid contaminant from a liquid having a greater density than the contaminant. A first step involves positioning a layer of buoyant non- absorbent powder at an interface between the liquid contaminant and the liquid, such that the layer of buoyant non-absorbent powder lifts the liquid contaminant out of the liquid. A second step involves removing the liquid contaminant from the surface of the layer of buoyant non-absorbent powder. In accordance with the teachings of this method rubber powder from recycled tires has been successfully used to remove hydrocarbons from water.</p> |
