PURPOSE: A light emitting diode and a manufacturing method thereof are provided to improve optical extraction efficiency by forming micro lenses which cover the concave part after forming a plurality of concave parts. CONSTITUTION: A first conductivity type bottom semiconductor layer(23) is located on a substrate(21). A second conductive type top semiconductor layer(27) is located on the first conductivity type bottom semiconductor layer. An active layer(25) is formed between the first conductivity type bottom semiconductor layer and the second conductive type top semiconductor layer. A transparent electrode layer(69) is located on the second conductive type top semiconductor layer. The transparent electrode layer comprises an unevenness surface consisting of a concave part and a convex part.
