PURPOSE: A backlight unit and a liquid crystal display device with the same are provided to refract light of a light emitting diode in a first light refraction pattern and refract the light in a second light refraction pattern. CONSTITUTION: A light source unit(150) includes a plurality of light emitting diodes(153). An optical plate(140) is formed on the light source unit. A first light refraction pattern(163) of a groove shape is formed on an area corresponding to the light emitting diode. A second light refraction pattern(161) of a groove shape faces the first light refraction pattern on the top of the optical plate. The curvature of the central part of the first light refraction pattern is between 0.2mm and 0.25mm.
