The machine (10) has a shaft (16) with active parts (24, 26) that are axially arranged on both sides of a rotor (18) of the shaft. Each active part is arranged in an inner space of cylindrical shaped radial magnetic bearings (20, 22) such that each bearing acts on one of the parts to radially maintain the rotor. One of the parts is arranged with respect to one of median planes (28, 30) of the bearings, in an asymmetrical manner, such that the bearings apply axial magnetic forces (FA1, FA2) on the part, respectively, where the plane is perpendicular to a rotational axis (X) of the shaft.
