[Class 39 (i).] The positive column of a discharge lamp passes through a tube 1, Fig. 1, of quartz or hard glass, having its ends ground into hot-electrode containers 3 of soft glass. An outer envelope 5 is sealed to the containers 3 at 4 and has the same filling as the tube 1. The electrodes may be adjacent and the envelope 5 spherical. In a modification, Fig. 3, the tube 1<1> is straight and the electrode containers 3 are surrounded by bands 6 carrying resilient tongues 7 which press against the outer envelope 51.
