PURPOSE: A gaze detection method and an apparatus using the same are provided to detect a user's gaze by a single camera and a single infrared light on a screen at which the user stares without wearing any device on the user's face. CONSTITUTION: A gaze detection apparatus obtains an upper body image of a user who stares at a monitor screen(310). The apparatus extracts an image of an facial region from the upper body image(320). The apparatus extracts an image of an eye region(330). The apparatus measures a pupil-reflected light vector and a face motion quantity(350). The apparatus calculates a gaze position(360). The apparatus calculates a mapping matrix after user calibration(370,380).
