The device has an air guide element (16) i.e. deflection screen, attached at a distance above a compression region (V). Pre-stretched fiber (F) is supplied from a drafting device (1) with low pressure. A partial segment (17) of the air guide element faces toward a surface (AF) of the compression region. The partial segment is connected with a counterweight (21) through which waste of suction air flow is withdrawn from the surface of the compression region. A display unit (22) i.e. signals strip, visually displays withdrawn position of the partial segment.
