Abstract A gaming system (10, 40, 100, 200) is disclosed which is arranged to randomly display a plurality of symbols from a 5 set of symbols (14) . The gaming system comprises a function allocator (26) arranged to allocate a function to at least one symbol selected from the set of symbols (14), and a game outcome generator (28) arranged to determine a game outcome based on the displayed symbols and on the 10 function allocated to the selected symbol.
