<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an immunogenic reagent causing a protective immune response against Bacillus anthracis. <P>SOLUTION: This immunogenic reagent is provided by comprising one or more polypeptides occupying up to the three domains of full length protective antigen (PA) of the Bacillus anthracis or their variants, wherein at least one of the domains comprise the domain 1 or domain 4 of the PA, or its variant. In a method the polypeptides of the immunogenic reagents as well as the full length PA are produced by the expression from E. coli.
