<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform service imparting processing without requiring discount processing by an operator. <P>SOLUTION: A code reader comprises: a photographing part; capturing means; first reading means; second reading means; and output means. The first reading means detects a code symbol for representing commodity information indicating a commodity to be purchased from the captured image and reads commodity information represented by the code symbol from the detected the code symbol. When a part of service display for representing service information indicating service given for purchase of the commodity is detected from the captured image, the second reading means continues to detect the service display from an image newly captured by the capturing means for a predetermined time after detecting the part of the service display.
