<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a magnetic recording medium in which thickness unevenness of a magnetic layer is suppressed. <P>SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing a magnetic tape includes a magnetic layer forming step of forming a magnetic layer by applying a magnetic coating material containing a magnetic powder on a nonmagnetic supporting body. The method further includes a heating and cooling step just prior to the magnetic layer forming step, the heating and cooling step carried out by bringing the nonmagnetic supporting body into contact with a heating roll 3 at a temperature from (Tg-10) to (Tg+30) (°C), wherein Tg represents a glass transition temperature of the nonmagnetic supporting body, and then quickly bringing the supporting body into contact with a cooling roll 4 at a temperature equal to or lower than (Tg-40) (°C). In the heating and cooling step, the contact duration of the nonmagnetic supporting body with the heating roll 3 is from 0.03 to 0.6 second, the contact duration of the supporting body with the cooling roll 4 is from 0.03 to 0.3 second, and the time period after the nonmagnetic supporting body departs from the heating roll 3 until the supporting body enters the cooling roll 4 is within 1 second. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
