<p>A transmission apparatus, such as a radio base station, comprising: a power amplifier (3), having an input (3a) and an output (3b), the power amplifier being arranged so as to amplify signals input at its input (3a) and output the amplified signals at its output (3b) for onward transmission, the power amplifier (3) being capable of amplifying input signals to a maximum power; a plurality of signal generating subsystems (2), which are arranged so as to each provide, in use, a signal to be amplified to the input (3a) of the power amplifier (3); and a power control circuit (4), arranged to assign a portion of the maximum power to each subsystem (2) for amplification of each subsystem's signal; in which each subsystem (2) is arranged to provide the power control circuit (4) with a power demand indicative of the power required by that subsystem (2), and in which the power control circuit (4) is arranged to vary the assignment of each subsystem's portion based upon the demands.</p> |
