FAILURE DETECTING DEVICE FOR PM SENSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for detecting a failure of a PM sensor provided in an exhaust passage of an internal combustion engine.

SOLUTION: An outflow PM quantity that is a PM quantity in an exhaust flowing out from a filter is detected by the PM sensor provided on a downstream side from the filter in the exhaust passage of the internal combustion engine. During the suspension of forced regeneration processing, the PM collection rate of the filter is continuously calculated based on an inflow PM quantity that is a PM quantity in an exhaust flowing in the filter and the outflow PM quantity detected by the PM sensor. It is determined that the failure occurs in the PM sensor when the calculated PM collection rate sticks to 100%.
