<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molten salt battery capable of operating at lower temperature without causing degradation. <P>SOLUTION: A separator 3 of the molten salt battery is impregnated with molten salt which is an electrolyte. The molten salt contains a cation composed of a kind of ion which is selected from alkaline metal ions and alkaline-earth metal ions and behaves as a charge carrier at charge and discharge. The molten salt contains anions composed of more than one kind of ion which is represented by the general, chemical structural formula (1) and has a different combination of X<SP POS="POST">1</SP>and X<SP POS="POST">2</SP>. The degradation of the molten salt battery is prevented because the cation which is not the charge carrier does not have an adverse effect on electrodes.
