PARALLEL VIDEO CODING BASED ON MAPPING

Aspects of the present invention relate to methods for parallel video decoding. According to one aspect of the present invention, a first group of blocks is predicted independently of the other ones of the blocks not included within the first group, wherein a prediction mode of a first smaller block is based upon a predefined set of prediction modes of a second larger block. The blocks within the first group may be predicted in parallel.
