<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dampening water composition for lithographic printing, which is superior in ink receptivity to an image and can provide a printed material having high ink density in a lithographic printing performed using a lithographic printing plate which is made up of a photopolymerizable lithographic printing plate precursor on which an oxygen-blocking protective layer containing a hydrophilic compound is provided. <P>SOLUTION: The dampening water composition contains: an organic solvent which shows a liquid phase at 20°C at 1 atmosphere and has a boiling point of ≥150°C; and imidazole.
