PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polymer having an improved polymerization yield, a reduced content of metal impurities and a cage-type structure, a film-forming composition having a reduced content of metal impurities, an organic film containing the film-forming composition and a semiconductor apparatus equipped with the organic film.

SOLUTION: The method for producing a polymer having a cage-type structure includes polymerizing a compound having a partial structure A containing an adamantane type cage-type structure and a polymerizable reactive group B contributing to a polymerization reaction in the molecule. The method for producing the polymer includes a step of mixing the compound having the partial structure A containing the cage-type structure and the polymerizable reactive group B with a surfactant in an aqueous phase by an ultrasonic treatment.
