<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium and a magnetic disc device having the same with which the floating amount and the floating attitude of a slider can be held constant even if a magnetic storage layer is separated by a groove (non-storage region). <P>SOLUTION: In a discrete track media (magnetic recording medium) 300 having a data tracks 308 which are recording regions 310 and non-recording regions (grooves) 312 therebetween, the width W in a radius direction of a discrete servo region 306 for specifying the position of the data tracks 308 is made to be less than the width SL of a center pad end provided on the slider of the magnetic disc device.
