摘要 Method to determine friction power losses of the journal bearings of the crank train and the piston assembly in an internal combustion engine (ICE) by reducing the sources of friction to these two components, measuring the total friction power losses of this setup A, determining the friction power losses of the crank train journal bearings by means of a simulation unit C that is using the temperature mapping method B, and determining the friction power losses of the piston assembly by subtraction of the crank train journal bearing friction power losses from the measured total friction power losses. The proposed approach determines with the aid of simulation the mechanical power losses in the piston assembly and the journal bearings of ICEs. The main advantages are: · it needs no structural modifications of the ICE, and therefore is applicable to ICEs from serial production (no special prototypes), and is thus also a very economical method; · it is quasi fired, so no combustion takes place and there are no exhaust gases that need special air condition systems at the measurement place.
