摘要 A wind turbine has an electrical discharge sensor system that comprises a fluorescent optical fibre 826 mounted so that its outer surface is exposed to an electrical component and an opto-electronic detector 46 to receive a light signal from an end of the optical fiber that is characteristic of an electric arc and output a signal to a controller 48 based on the light signal. The electrical components can be power or control cables and housed in a cabinet 82. The controller can output an alarm signal 60 or operate an electrical switch 52 to shut down a region of the cabinet from a power supply 54 in response to an arcing event. The optical fibre can be attached to a mounting board 822 or interior cabinet wall, covering either its entire surface or facing a specific component having a greater risk for discharge. The optical fibre can comprise fluorescent material in its core, cladding, or both, absorbing radiation in the EM spectrum characteristic of electrical arcing, e.g. UV or short wavelength visible light, and emit light of a different wavelength into the optical fibre. The fluorescent fibre can be connected to the detector by non-fluorescent optical fibre.
