376,886. Ship windows ; window regulators. KAWNEER CO., 1105, South Front Street, Niles, Michigan, U.S.A. May 15, 1931, No. 14481. Convention date, July 14, 1930. [Class 20 (iii).] The metal frame of a ship's window comprises a number of interconnected angle-irons 4..7, Figs. 1, 2, and 4, one leg 8 of each angle-iron being secured to the ship's structure 1 while the other leg 10 projects inwards and carries a felt-lined U-shaped channel 19 for a sliding window 13. The channels are each formed with a doubled-over portion 22 which is connected to the frame by bolts 15, and each channel is bent inwardly at 20 to retain the felt, lining 21. On the side rails 6, 7, the doubled-over portion 22 is dispensed with below a plate 24 which forms a covering for a housing or well 23. This well receives the sliding window when the same is lowered and carries the actuating mechanism therefor. The actuating mechanism comprises a handle 32 connected to a spiral gear 31 which meshes with a worm 33. This worm is mounted on the shaft of a vertical screw 29, the shaft being journalled in upper and lower bearings 34, 37. A nut 27 slides up and down on the screw 29 when the handle 32 is actuated, and has a shoulder which supports the bifurcated arms 28 of a bracket 26 connected to the lower edge of the window. A felt strip 41 may be applied to the hull of the ship in such a position as to prevent the entry of any water into the well. |
