The transmission (3) has a gear wheel (31) connected with a wheel axle (1) of a rail vehicle, and another gear wheel (32) connected with drive shaft for connection of an electric generator. The gear wheels are connected with each other directly or indirectly by a third gear wheel (33). Bearings are attached to the gear wheels, and a sensor unit (36) i.e. temperature sensor and/or bimetal switch, is arranged at each bearing to monitor the state of the bearings. A series connection of the sensor units is connected to terminals (37, 38) of a cable loop (5) of the vehicle. The gear wheels are formed as spur wheels.
