[Class 100 (ii).] Material having a plaited appearance for use in making shoe uppers, bags, and satchels is made by first slitting in interrupted parallel lines b, Fig. 5, a piece of fabric, leather, indiarubber, oilcloth, or imitation leather, &c. and pressing it between two dies each having raised portions e alternating with depressions f. Grooves or recesses.g are formed in the raised parts e and strips c are drawn through the aligned grooves &c. by means of a needle-like part so that thes stripes pass under the parts of the fabric &c. raised by the die and over the other parts. When the fabric &c. is withdrawn it has the appearance of being plaited. Coloured materials may be used and check pattern effects be produced. |
