PURPOSE: Magnesium alloy and a surface treating method of magnesium alloy are provided to perform surface treatment with excellent corrosion resistance without a separate pre-treating process at a range of relatively low temperature and enable surface treatment of magnesium without chrome. CONSTITUTION: A surface treating method of magnesium alloy comprises next steps. At Ph 10~13 and a temperature of 40~80°C, a magnesium alloy substrate is immersed in treatment solution. The treatment solution comprises potassium permanganate of 0.2~0.5M, sodium hydroxide or potassium hydroxide of 0.4~4.0M, potassium pyrophosphate of 0.1~0.3M, and additive. The additive generates chloride ion in the treatment solution. The additive generating chloride ion is one or more selected from a group of KCl, NaCl, and NH4Cl. The magnesium alloy substrate is immersed for 0.5~10 minutes.
