<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a serial multiple inverter device capable of continuously supplying power to an AC load with the same output voltage as the voltage before a failure even when a short-circuit failure and the like occurred in at least one of a plurality of unit inverters. <P>SOLUTION: The serial multiple inverter device receives DC power from a rectifier and a smoothing capacitor, forms a serially connected unit inverter group by serially connecting output sides of a plurality of unit inverters in which semiconductor switch elements are bridge-connected, controls opening and closing of the semiconductor switches, and connects a plurality of serially connected unit inverter groups to an AC load. When operation error detection means detects a unit inverter error, a bypass circuit short-circuits an output side of the unit inverter, and circuit protection means opens and protects the unit inverter.
