<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hoist which can be laid in a state where it is stopped at a predetermined position and to perform a lifting operation, even when an object to be lifted is extremely heavy, while securing the safety of the operation by stopping the hoist at the predetermined position. <P>SOLUTION: The hoist 23 includes: a hoist body 62 for winding up a chain; a traveling roller 65 attached to the hoist body 62; and a lock mechanism 81 for releasing the rotation of the traveling roller 65 in an unlocking manner. An annular flange 71 is provided on the outer surface end of the traveling roller 65, and teeth 82 are provided on the outer surface of the flange 71.
