[Class 12 (i).] A bearing, especially for crank shafts and connecting-rod ends for internal-combustion engines, is made, in part at least, of a vitrified material such as glass, crystal, quartz or the like. The material selected is preferably such that its coefficient of heat expansion is identical with that of the material of the co-operating shaft. The surface of the latter is preferably of nitrogenized steel. The bearing is finished by grinding and polishing.</p> |
