<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake device provided with a brake switch which prevents maloperation of the brake switch and correctly detects the movements of an armature. <P>SOLUTION: The brake device includes a brake drum housed in a motor case and connected to a rotary shaft of a motor, a brake shoe arranged to face the drum, the armature fixed to the brake shoe, a coil case housing an electromagnet coil for driving the armature and fixed to the motor case, a spring arranged between the coil case and the armature, the brake switch fixed to the coil case, and a switch drive pin fixed to the armature to turn on and off the brake switch.
