<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an impact absorbing member for automobile, capable of effectively absorbing impact energy by causing a bellow-shaped plastic deformation to an axial direction without generating crack at the top (ridge line) of polygonal cross-section. <P>SOLUTION: The impact absorbing member 1 includes a body 2 comprising a hollow square tube body with polygonal cross-section having the sides of 3a to 3h and the top R portions 4a to 4h, and absorbs impact energy by causing axial crush due to impact load by which the body 2 is loaded toward an axial direction to cause the bellow-shaped plastic deformation. The tensile strength of a steel sheet 5 is 780 MPa or more. The average value Wp (mm) of lengths of the sides 3a to 3h, and thickness t (mm) of the steel sheet 5 have a relation of 10<Wp/t<40. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
