An electric motor (1) having a rotor assembly (20) and a stator assembly (50) of the type in which pieces of non-magnetic material are arranged in the space between adjacent rotor teeth (22) in order to suppress windage. The non-magnetic pieces are formed as bridge pieces (30) spanning between adjacent rotor teeth (22) and suspended above the rotor hub (24). Secure retention of the bridge pieces (30) during use, when they experience extreme centrifugal forces, is achieved by provision of lugs (301) which engage into slots (401) in the side (surfaces 40) of the rotor teeth (22). The lugs (301) extend part circumferentially and part radially inwardly which has the effect that the lugs self-lock into the slots when deformed under action of the centrifugal forces that occur when the rotor assembly spins. |
