INTERCONNECTION OF DYE - SENSITIZED SOLAR CELLS IN PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULES AND MANUFACTURING PROCESS

DSSC (dye - sensitized solar cells) are today promising alternatives in the renewable energies field to the current silicon -based photovoltaic technology. However, the industrialization of these cells for the production of photovoltaic panels still faces challenges which have to be overcome before they become viable for commercialization. The present invention concerns DSSC, more specifically the design of photovoltaic panels in which the cells are monolithically interconnected in series, what brings several advantages concerning the most relevant aspects of the product: simplicity of production, applicability and efficiency. The complete structure of a preferred embodiment of the present invention includes: (1) two substrates, (2) a conducting layer, (3, 4 and 5) semiconducting oxide layer (s), (6) an electrolyte, (7) a catalytic layer, (8) an insulator and (9) an electric contact.
