<p>A lock assembly including a latchbolt (44) that may be effectively lengthened to accommodate varied backset distances for doors. The lock assembly may include a housing (90), a latchbolt including an attachment member (132), an extension member (200), a retractor element (95), and an operator (30). The extension member may be mounted to the attachment member to extend from the latchbolt for effective lengthening of the latchbolt. The retractor element, operatively responsive to the operator, is disposed within the housing for linear reciprocating movement to move the latchbolt, and is selectively engageable with the attachment member or with the extension member. The extension member defines a recess adapted to receive the attachment member. A latch case (130) may receive the latchbolt, and a cylindrical sleeve (220) may receive the latch case and the latchbolt when the extension member is in use to increase the backset dimension.</p> |
