<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extract a related phrase which fits into the relevance of a phrase assumed by a user in information retrieval about an object phrase. <P>SOLUTION: This related phrase extraction method is configured to read, from a query transition database 14 in which query transition information having preceding query information and following query information used by a user for a series of retrieval is stored, the query transition information whose preceding query information consists of only an object phrase from which a related phrase is extracted, and to tabulate following phrases in the following query information of the read query transition information, and to calculate a statistical value showing the relevance of the object phrase and the following phrases by using the appearance frequency of the object phrase and the following phrases, and to extract the related phrase related with the object phrase based on the statistical value.
