<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of accurately and quickly performing processing for making a density appropriate, even when the surface of an intermediate transfer belt has a scratch. <P>SOLUTION: The reference output of a density detection sensor when an unpainted surface of an intermediate transfer belt is detected is adjusted to a plurality of levels and the density of the unpainted surface of the intermediate transfer belt is detected by one rotation at the respective reference output levels and stored as unpainted surface profile data in association with the corresponding reference output level. When the timing of executing processing for making the image density appropriate is obtained (S11: YES), the reference output of the density detection sensor is calibrated (S12), and a toner pattern formed on the intermediate transfer belt is detected by the density detection sensor (S15). Density detection data obtained by the detection is corrected by the unpainted surface profile data obtained based on the reference output closest to the reference output in calibration, of the stored unpainted surface profile data (S16) and the image density is made appropriate based on the corrected density detection data (S17). <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
