PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a display device that reproduces atmosphere created by images of old premier movies with more fidelity than a conventional liquid crystal television sets or plasma television sets.

SOLUTION: A liquid crystal television set 1 includes a backlight 110a for radiating light toward the outside the liquid crystal television set 1 so that an image is displayed on a liquid crystal panel 110a, and a backlight control circuit 110c for controlling whether or not to radiate light to the backlight 110a. The backlight control circuit 110c controls the backlight 110a so that a period of 1/96 second in which the backlight 110a does not emit light and a period of 1/96 second in which the backlight 110a emits light are alternately repeated.
