METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR FORWARDING MULTICAST TRAFFIC

The embodiments of the present invention provide a method and an apparatus for forwarding multicast traffic. The method includes: receiving a third multicast join message; in response to the third multicast join message, sending a first multicast join message to a first upstream routing equipment and constructing a main path; in response to the third multicast join message, sending a second multicast join message to a second upstream routing equipment and constructing a backup path; sending the multicast traffic to the multicast receiver through the main path and not forwarding the multicast traffic through the backup path. By constructing, in advance, a backup path which is not used to forward the multicast traffic, the above mentioned embodiments can forward the multicast traffic through the backup path which is constructed in advance when the main path fails. The backup path is not used to forward the multicast traffic when the multicast traffic is normally forwarded through the main path, which avoids occupying double network bandwidths, and thus saving the network bandwidths.
