METHODS OF RELEASING SPOROCYSTS FROM OOCYSTS USING CONTROLLED SHEAR FORCES

Disclosed is a method of releasing and recovering viable sporocysts from oocysts by application of shear force, the method comprising: a) preparing a solution containing oocysts suspended therein; b) providing a cell disruption device with a chamber whose diameter is equal to or larger than the diameter of the oocysts; c) passing a continuous flow of the solution through the chamber of a cell disruption device such that the shear force is sufficient to generate a shear rate per minute of between about 3.00 x 105 sec-1 per minute and about 3.00 x 106 sec-1 per minute, thereby releasing intact viable sporocysts from the oocysts; and d) recovering the intact viable sporocysts from the solution.
