<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent double reading of a merchandise code more definitely. <P>SOLUTION: A merchandise code reader comprises a photographed image capturing section 1611, a code detecting section 1612, a decoding section 1613, a code tracing section 1614 and a decode controlling section 1615. The photographed image capturing section 1611 captures photographed frame images in sequence. The code detecting section 1612 detects a code symbol included in the captured frame images. The decoding section 1613 decodes the merchandise code from the detected code symbol. The code tracing section 1614 traces the decoded code symbol based on the time-sequentially detected code symbol from the sequentially captured frame images.
