Disclosed is a crystalline racemic ilaprazole hydrate, which has a powder x-ray diffraction pattern having peaks at 6.5 degrees 2è ± 0.2 degrees 2è and 18.6 degrees 2è ± 0.2 degrees 2è. Also disclosed is the use of the crystalline ilaprazole hydrate for preparing a medicament for treating a gastrointestinal inflammatory disorder in a mammal.
