<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a starter motor capable of stabilizing a supply current by a brush and extending the lifetime of the brush. <P>SOLUTION: The starter motor 1 includes: a yoke 21; an armature 5 including a rotary shaft 10 rotatably supported in the yoke 21, an armature core 11 around which a winding 13 is wound, and a commutator 12; a pinion mechanism 60 provided at the other end side of the rotary shaft 10 from the armature core 11; and a brush 32 in slide contact with the commutator 12 while being biased toward the commutator 12 to supply electric power to the winding 13 through the commutator 12, wherein the pinion mechanism 60 is pushed out toward a ring gear 69 side of an engine by receiving rotational force of the rotary shaft 10.
