SEWER PIPE REPAIR LINER WITH RADIO-FREQUENCY IDENTIFICATION TRANSPONDER, AND METHOD OF USING SAME

A repair liner (12) for repairing a lateral/main pipe junction and method of using the same to identify a lateral sewer pipe (11) are disclosed. The repair liner (12) includes a radiofrequency identification transponder (13) capable of transmitting an identification signal that is unique to the repair liner (12). The method comprises the steps of: Providing a repair liner (12) for repairing a lateral/main pipe junction, the repair liner (12) including a radio-frequency identification transponder (13) capable of transmitting an identification signal that is unique to the repair liner (12); bonding the repair liner (12) to one or both of lateral (11) and main (10) sewer pipes at a lateral/main pipe junction, whereby the radio-frequency identification transponder (13) is positioned proximate the lateral/main pipe junction; providing a mobile device (15) for moving in the main sewer pipe (10), the mobile device (15) including a radio-frequency identification reader (14) capable of detecting the identification signal transmitted by the radiofrequency identification transponder (13) when the mobile device (15) is positioned proximate the radio-frequency identification transponder (13); and moving the mobile device (15) in the main sewer pipe (10) so that the mobile device (15) is positioned proximate the radiofrequency identification transponder (13) so as to detect the identification signal transmitted by the RFID transponder (13).
