<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an adhesive applying device forming an adhesive layer in an even thickness in the direction of a sheet bundle when the adhesive is applied to the end face of the sheet bundle, whereby occurrence of defective bookbinding is reduced. <P>SOLUTION: When the adhesive is applied to the end face of the sheet bundle, which is set at a predetermined applying position P1, by an application roll 57 arranged in a glue tray 56, the application roll 57 is supported in the state that a roll surface is inclined in the thickness direction of the sheet bundle, and an urging means 48 urging the roll surface toward the application end surface is arranged.
