PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of improving safety when a program is updated by obtaining update data from outside.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 10 includes: a hard disk device 26 for storing a control program for controlling the operation of the image forming apparatus 10; a main CPU 11 for controlling the operation of the image forming apparatus 10 according to the control program stored in the hard disk device 26; a memory 22; a network I/F part 24 connected to a server device 40 in which the update data of the control program is stored; and a sub CPU 21 which confirms whether the update data is normal after storing the update data obtained by the server device 40 through the network I/F part 24 in the memory 22 and starts to update the control program using the update data when the update data is confirmed to be normal.
