PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal material exhibiting a blue phase that allows lower driving voltage and higher contrast.

SOLUTION: A liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal layer exhibiting a blue phase comprises: a first wall-like structure provided on a first electrode layer (pixel electrode layer); a second wall-like structure provided similarly on a second electrode layer (common electrode layer); and a dielectric film covering these. The dielectric film is an insulator having a higher dielectric constant than the a liquid crystal material used for the first wall-like structure, the second wall-like structure, and the liquid crystal layer and is provided so as to project into the liquid crystal layer.
