The relief system of the compressed air within the air-chamber of the Paraaortic Counterpulsation Pump can be applied on patients with chronic heart failure. As we know, the paraaortic counterpulsation pump is based on the supply of compressed gas during the diastolic phase of the cardiac cycle and its removal during the ejection phase of the left ventricle. The relief system of the compressed air within the air-chamber ( 1 ) of the paraaortic counterpulsation pump includes an electronical safety valve (15) adjusted to the beginning of the extracorporeal part of the biocompatible airway (1 1) of the paraaortic counterpulsation pump. The valve is synchronized (via electrocardiogram obtainable either by epicardial or common skin electrodes) with the gas supplying device (console) (14) and opens the airway to the environment during the gas evacuation phase of the AE chamber (systolic phase of cardiac cycle), and closes during the ejection of compressed gas (diasolic phase of cardiac cycle) from the console toward the paraaortic pump. This achieves rapid relief of the compressed air within the air-chamber and normal evacuation of it while avoiding the application of significant negative pressure on the airway, which could potentially lead to abnormal blood flow within the pump or to other complications. |
