<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily generate an image file, containing only an image of a required viewpoint according to a desired reproduction scheme, from original multi-viewpoint image data, and to store the image file. <P>SOLUTION: A viewpoint image extraction method is determined on the basis of desired-viewpoint information. For example, it is determined to extract viewpoint images from a master file as many as or more than the minimum number of viewpoints (preferably, recommended number of viewpoints) in desired-viewpoint information.
