[Also in Group XVII] A funnel of the B³chner type comprises a lower funnel part 1 with flange 2, a perforate plate 3 and a cylindrical inlet sleeve 5 having a flange 6 preferably of the same external diameter as, and resting upon, the top of the plate 3. A filter paper is placed on the plate 3, the inlet sleeve 5 is placed on the filter paper, and clamps applied to flanges 2 and 6. The perforate p!ate 3 may be replaced by a plate, imperforate, but provided with a porous central portion ; a filter paper is in that case unnecessary. It is essential that the contacting surfaces 2, 3 and 6 are accurately ground to ensure a tight seal. |
