Method for operating a wind farm with a wind speed measurement device

The method involves measuring wind speed by a wind speed measurement device (16) i.e. anemometer. Mechanical load is detected by measuring acceleration force acting perpendicular to a rotational plane of a wind power plant using an acceleration sensor (22), which is arranged in a gondola (12) of the plant. An estimated value of the wind speed is determined based on the detected mechanical load by an estimated value detecting device (24). The wind speed is compared with the estimated value by a comparison device (26).
